Analysis of existing concept art:

Darksburg Dolorosa Concept Art

The thing about this piece of concept art is that is puts everything into one slide. It gets the one idea and adds to it until they have a desired look. They clearly had an image in their mind with the plague doctor type look and made different styles to see which would fit the criteria best. I'm a fan of number 1, due to its simplicity and yet mysterious look, I especially like the robe with the separate parts coming off of it.

The thing that makes it a nice piece is that they went through how they got the posture of the character and went through how they got the desired hands. I also really like that they added accessories to them, having different types of clothing is nice but to add objects to it makes it much better.

They also nicely labeled each style to make it easier to say which one is preferred. This goes to show either professionalism or just a high amount of consideration, which to me makes it so much more. Even though that might get passed by by the employer, it still makes it a really good piece of concept art.

Another interesting detail is the hand work. They took in consideration mutations of the character, they labeled the fact that she could be arachnodactyly, meaning she may have conjoined fingers. There's also hand pictures for reference in the bottom right to show how this person came up with the hand design.

Next, they made sure to stick to the character described having those questions and statements in the top right to show the amount of thought that went into creating this character. And a nice detail is the art style changes within the variants. From 1 to 3 there are 3 different art styles in my opinion, with 1 having a more cartoon look to them, 2 having a more eldritch vibe to it, and 3 having a more detailed and gloomy yet refined look to it.

Although it came out a bit more cartoony than expected, they really sided with number 3 and 6, which turned out to be ok. They kept the idea of a back accessory but they made more technological than thought originally. In my opinion, it may have been best if they stuck with the more medieval look with a giant bottle or box to make look more authentic.
