Retro Game Review: Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga

Beginning:
The game is based off the nostalgic movie franchise, Star Wars, made by LucasArts in 1977. The movie was a hit and gained much attention and a large reputation amongst the world. It took over the Sci-Fi industry becoming a top hit and will remain that way for many more years to come.

Graphics:
The graphics that I was introduced to at the beginning are very good for when it was made, giving 3D graphics. The game was very smooth with little to no errors when using the camera, but in some situations it got a little tricky as I was trying to see a pair of droids put my camera was in a wall so I could not see. But after that there were no more issues. There weren't any other issues that majorly concerned me but there were little parts of the game where it didn't load in properly but it was easy enough to guide around.

Story:
The story was very involved in that it was very fluid, everything made sense however there were some instances that made the game very goofy and silly at points where it should not have been, but all of that is to bring down the age rating making sure that even children can play. While I was playing, I realized that and I was a little disappointed. The game follows the story well and has very few occasions where it drifts from the main story line, other than that it stayed fairly close.

Pause Time:
I got into the first level with no difficulty and it was a very smooth transition to the main screen and the level. However if you have not played the level already, you will have to sit through a grueling 30 second showing of the plot of the level. This was very annoying as all I wanted was gameplay and not to read the plot of the level.

Title Screen:
The title screen had a very entertaining animated background that has destruction and imperial and republic ships fighting each other. It has a nice smooth entrance to the  main screen, playing the Star Wars theme. It also showed some of the characters you can collect throughout the game, sometimes giving spoilers but gives a glance at opportunities and builds tension making you want to play the game even more.

Design:
The design of the game is unique in that it is very easy to understand and hard not to get into the game. It was all thorough and never too complicated coming back to the idea that it is suitable for children. The fact that it is Lego makes sure that there is no gore to influence the minds of children.

Gameplay: Shortened, Don't read If you want spoilers!
At the start it was easy to follow, and was very nice in that they cared about scenery along with detail, bushes and trees got a lot of attention making sure in that some parts of the story were very enjoyable. The game payed close attention to how the characters acted and what sort of movements they would make. The first boss was very entertaining and fairly easy to defeat with a nice cutscene that shows no blood but the death of Qui-Gon-Jinn. Later, Obi-Wan finds young Anakin taking him in to be his apprentice. Anakin becomes a fine jedi by getting his own apprentice and taking on whole armies. However, him and his friends get caught by a traitorous Count Dooku and Anakin and Obi-Wan start to charge him. Amongst the fighting Dooku has a hostage, Palpatine, who then tells Anakin to kill Dooku. Obi-Wan and the order then discuss that Anakin might be the chosen one. Anakin grows hatred toward the republic and started converging to Darth Sidious. Obi-Wan finds out and plans to stop Anakin and succeeded but not before Padme died during child birth to Luke and Laia. Sidious finds a chopped up Anakin taking him in to be brought back to health and becomes Darth Vader. Luke learns the ways of the jedi by being taught by a old Master Yoda on Dagobah. He trains using the force and learns a type of jedi fighting style, he was trained until he couldn't. He travels to Tatooine to go meditate in Obi-Wans hut there. A few months go by and Luke starts to go off on his own journey with new abilities. He gets into a fight with Darth Vader and finds out that he is his father and ultimately gets defeated with a sliced off hand and falls into space where he is rescued. The Rebel Alliance, lead by Luke's sister Leia, storms the Death Star build by Darth Sidious and plot to explode the whole thing. Luke finds himself yet again facing his father but overpowers him but gets shocked by Sidious. Anakin sees this and decides to grab and throw Sidious off the Death Star and ultimately to his death. Anakin sadly dies due to being severely injured and Luke and TRA escape whilst the Death Star is imploding. Luke and everyone gather to have a party when Yoda, Anakin and Obi-Wan come as ghosts that have been shown by using the force. The End.

The story was very nice with little secrets as well pointing towards what was to happen in the future, this gave a nice sense of control over the game for me personally. It was a blast to play and it gave much entertainment to no surprise.

After the story was complete it gave access to a playground mode where all you had to do was smash stuff and reach 1 million studs with out amplifiers. It was easy to start off with but got hard toward the end. The game also has a multiplayer arena where 2 players can choose characters and battle it out in a 1v1 deathmatch for fun and games. Unlocking golden bricks gives access to golden doorways which are in fact secret levels to play.

Overall, it is a great game to pass the time and experience the franchise from a simple but yet appealing version of it. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes Star Wars or just likes to play games in general.
